This year’s theme is ‘Against All Odds’ with guest speakers Sarah Winckless MBE, Scottish Huntington’s Association Patron, and Dame Katherine Grainger, one of Britain’s greatest sports stars. Both former members of Team GB rowing squad, they are joining forces once again on the 20th anniversary of their first World Championship quad win together in 2005.

Sarah and Katherine clinched gold again in 2006. Sarah had already won bronze in the double scull at the 2004 Olympics, while Katherine went on to dominate the sport, winning one Olympic gold, four Olympic silvers, six World Championship golds, one silver and a bronze before retiring.

While excelling in sport at the highest levels, Sarah was coming to terms with learning that she is facing the onset of Huntington’s disease. A test taken while still a student confirmed that she has inherited the faulty gene from her late mother.

Since then Sarah has juggled her sporting and other professional commitments with her role as a global advocate on behalf of the Huntington’s disease community, including as Patron of Scottish Huntington’s Association.

The Women of Scotland Lunch celebrates women who have made a difference in their community in Scotland. It is a fun day out when women of all ages meet old and new friends, are inspired by incredible speakers and raise money for charity. Previous lunches have raised more than £20,000 per year for that year’s charity.

Barbara Allison, Chair of the Lunch, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the work of Scottish Huntington’s Association. The committee was so impressed with the work the charity is doing to help those people affected by such a terrible condition and so were keen to help.”
