Chair of Genetic Alliance UK and Vice Chair of Sight Scotland/Sight Scotland Veterans

Liz brings extensive insight and experience having been Chair of Genetic Alliance UK since 2019. The 200+ voluntary sector member charity works in the areas of genetic diseases/conditions, rare disease and undiagnosed conditions. It provides secretariat functions for UK, Scottish and Welsh government committees, and is an influential member of all three governments’ policy delivery groups in this area.

Since 2021 Liz has also been Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Sight Scotland/Sight Scotland Veterans.

From 2008 to 2017, Liz was on permanent secondment from NHS National Services Scotland to the Scottish Government in key roles including Head of Strategic Planning and Clinical Priorities (2012 – 2017). During this time Liz led the policy and development of the National Care Framework for Huntington’s Disease; was Head of National Planning Team (2008-2012), and Head of Cancer Team (1999-2008).

In 2024, for her continuing contribution in the field during her career and following retirement, Liz was recognised with an MBE for services to people with rare diseases.
