To mark the 30th year of Scottish Huntington’s Association, we are inviting you to tell us about an inspiring volunteer whose kindness and commitment helps people and families to meet the challenges of Huntington’s disease.

The SHA 30th Anniversary Volunteer Awards are a chance to celebrate and thank the amazing individuals and groups who make the work of SHA possible.

They come from every walk of life and are of all ages. Whether raising awareness as a You, Me and HD speaker or helping at fundraising events, taking on unpaid office roles or coordinating vital family branch meetings, volunteers are at the heart of all that we do.

This special year offers the chance to say a big ‘thank you’ to these unsung heroes for sharing their energy, creativity, time and talents to make a real difference to people’s lives.

We are committed to supporting people living with HD in a way that promotes respect, dignity and self-worth and recognises that they have an important role to play in their community. Our volunteers are the perfect ambassadors for this vision.

Please join us in recognising their invaluable contribution to this work that we share by supporting the SHA 30th Anniversary Volunteer Awards.

How do I nominate a volunteer/group for an SHA  30th Anniversary Volunteering Award?

It’s really easy – simply fill in a nomination form at the bottom of the page. You can nominate an individual or group in more than one category, but you will need to fill in one form per category.

What happens next?

All nominations will be considered by a panel of judges drawn from across SHA, including a volunteer representative, and a vote will be taken to decide the award recipient for each category.

When will the Award winners be announced?

We’ll reveal the winners at this year’s Family Conference, which is being held at the MacDonald Aviemore Resort on 1 and 2 November 2019.

SHA 30th Anniversary Volunteer Award categories:

  1. Volunteer of the Year
This Award will be given to an outstanding individual whose enduring support has created significant and lasting impact, whether that be through advocacy, campaigning, increasing awareness or fundraising.
  2. Young Volunteer of the Year
This Award will recognise a volunteer aged 25 or under whose support, insight and commitment goes above and beyond to support the work of SHA and families living with HD.
  1. Volunteer Group of the Year
You might choose to nominate one of our Family Branches, Support Groups and Family Branches. How about the newly-created community of You, Me and HD Ambassadors? Or maybe you’ve come across a local organisation, school, workplace or club that is actively supporting SHA? Tell us about it!
  2. Most Inspiring Volunteer
Do you know someone whose energy and passion is helping to increase understanding about HD in their communities and beyond? Or maybe they give up their time to organise fundraising events that raise awareness and vital funds? If so, it’s the perfect time to share their story with us.
  1. Fundraising Champion of the Year
We are thankful to all the amazing people who support our SHA events throughout the year, and to the many supporters who come up with fantastic and creative new ways to generate donations. Every penny makes a real difference, and this Award will go to someone who is always willing to go that extra mile on our behalf.
