Insurance and Huntington's disease

We have developed four short videos in partnership with Specialist Insurance Adviser, Kathryn Knowles, to provide a brief summary of the key issues around insurance, genetic testing and Huntington’s disease.

The videos are designed to provide information only, and SHA is not recommending the use of any specific specialist insurance advisor over any other.

For more information about any of the following topics, please contact the Financial Wellbeing Team in the first instance. While we are not financial advisors, and are unable to recommend any specific product, we can provide general information and guidance.

Finding the right insurance

Specialist insurance advisor Kathryn Knowles introduces a short series of videos made for Scottish Huntington’s Association to address some of the common concerns among HD families when looking for the right cover.

Life insurance

What should I do about life insurance? Specialist insurance advisor Kathryn Knowles explores what you need to know to make an informed decision when choosing a policy.

Critical Illness cover

Will a policy pay out if I am diagnosed with Huntington’s disease? Specialist insurance advisor Kathryn Knowles explains the options and how insurers consider HD.

Genetic testing

What do I need to tell the insurance company? Specialist insurance advisor Kathryn Knowles looks at what information you need to disclose when applying for cover.

Ultimately, we may recommend that you do seek further advice from a specialist insurance advisor or an Independent Financial Advisor, and these can be searched for on the websites below. Currently, we are aware of only two specialist insurance advice firms with specific knowledge about Huntington’s disease, and these are detailed along with two other firms.
