Community invited to first Family Gathering event

Registration is now open for the charity’s Family Gathering on Saturday 12 November at the Macdonald Inchrya Hotel and Spa in Polmont.

It’s been nearly three years since SHA was last able to bring the HD community together in this way so the get-together will be less formal than previous events, with a lighter agenda to enable families to socialise and reconnect with one another.

Man giving a presentationAttendees will also hear from Professor Ed Wild, Associate Director of University College London Huntington’s Disease Centre and Editor in Chief of HD Buzz.

“Families tell us what they enjoy most from such events is the opportunity to catch up with old friends, meet new people and have discussions with others who understand their challenges in the way that most do not. We’re therefore allowing plenty of time for these discussions to take place and these relationships to blossom,” said Alistair Haw, Chief Executive.

“Families also tell us they want to find out more about the work of the charity and the latest global research news, so there’s space for these important items on the agenda too. We’re delighted to have Professor Wild, a great friend to our community, as a speaker and there will also be contributions from family members sharing their experiences.

“Looking to the future, families will also be invited to share their ideas and suggestions as SHA prepares to launch its first five-year strategy.”

Attendance is free and lunch and morning/afternoon refreshments will be provided. Our Youth Service is organising activities for children 8+ and young people who would like to be part of the day.
